BRIEF

Glenrose, TX is known for a globally ranked concentration of prehistoric fossils and immense Blackland Prairie landscapes. The brief was to provide a sophisticated age-in-place elevated ranch house that responds to a particular space defined by the staggered bluff where the house sits and the delicate lower-lying tree canopy of the surrounding prairie.

REALIZATION

A cline in the air as defined by various horizons of vertical landscape.

The house is positioned at a position and elevation to balance within the site a human connection and an expansive perception.

Oriented for optimal solar light and heat mitigation along an east west axis, the houses points to the site’s water pond westward and aligns the horizon and tree canopy line with an eye level when occupants are in a sitting position.

The arrangement of rooms and materials maintain a transparency along this horizon line creating dynamic vignettes of the site’s flora and fauna.
